How I Gave Beth Faux Bangs // Hair Tutorial

Some of you said you'd like to see a tutorial on how I gave Beth faux bangs in the last post. So here we go! If you'd like to see the YouTube video which I got this idea from, click this link.

For this hairstyle, you will need some bobby pins, two elastics, and a headband. I used my own headband and tied a knot in it to make it fit around Beth's head. This hairstyle will probably work better on a doll with wavy or curly hair, because then the bangs will have contour, but I have not tried it on a straight haired doll yet.

First, put your dolls hair in a high ponytail.

Separate hair from the top of the ponytail and flip it forward. This hair will become the bangs. It's okay if it's a bit long right now.

The hardest part is to arrange the hair on the forehead to create the bangs. Pull the hair to make it longer and shape it around the doll's face. Pin it carefully in place with bobby pins.

Slip the headband on to cover the bobby pins.

Smooth the extra hair and put a elastic around it at the base of the ponytail.

Twist the pony into a bun and pin in place.

Ta da! Now your doll has a completely new and different look!

Beth Tries Faux Bangs

I recently saw a YouTube tutorial on how to do faux bangs. I thought it would be fun to try on a doll, but didn't know if it would work. So, I grabbed a doll and gave it a go!

The tutorial I watched required flat ironing the bangs to curve them in the right direction. I can see how this would be needed on straight hair. However, Beth already has wavy hair so her hair curved naturally!

I found this half finished friendship bracelet among my embroidery floss and discovered it was the perfect length for a doll bracelet! 

I twisted the rest of her hair up into a bun.

It was fun to try out the hairstyle to see what Beth would look like with bangs. I think I personally prefer her without bangs, but that just might be because that is what I'm used to!

Beth of Stony Hill // a photo shoot

This week I sewed a little summer dress! I think the inspiration came from a recent read of Rilla of Ingleside by L.M. Montgomery. I imagine the girls wearing dresses with lots of gathers, so I ended up making a modern dress based on that! I didn't use a pattern, but just used rectangles and fixed things as I went along. A necklace and braided up-do (from a YouTube tutorial) completed the look.

Also, all of these pictures were edited slightly (just the brightness, sharpness, and color intensity). I'm not too experienced with picture editing, but just changed it to when I thought it looked a bit better. Would you be interested in seeing a comparison post with the originals and edits side by side?

Just Chillin'

I've been wanting a pair of cowgirl boots for my dolls for a while, and was excited to get these brown ones from Hobby Lobby a few days ago! They are so cute, and Velcro in the back. The soles are plastic, not foam. Now my dolls have appropriate boots to wear in the summer :) Beth loves wearing boots, so here she is modeling....

How to Do a Princess Leia Hairstyle on Your Doll

I did a Rey hair tutorial a while back, and so today I thought I'd put Beth in Princess Leia buns! I took pictures as I went...

I used small hair pins, small elastics, a spray bottle, and a doll hairbrush.

Start with your dolls hair combed down.

Separate into two pigtails and tie them right on top of the ear.

As you can see, the pigtails are on top of the ear.

Twist toward the outside. 

Wrap the twist in a circle around the center of the ear. Pin as you go.

Once it was in place, I used extra pins and elastics to hold it in place. I also sprayed it with water to flatten some flyaways.

Do the same thing to the other side.

And you're done! 

Super simple and cute!

This technique can be used to make buns anywhere on your dolls head, too!
